“An extraordinary film about one of the world’s most amazing cats - easily the best nature documentary that I have ever seen”Eye of the Leopard takes viewers on an enthralling journey deep into the rarely seen lives of leopards. It is a journey of birth, life and death as a mother leopard and her first surviving cub of six, fight off marauding baboons and elude scavenging hyenas in a constant struggle for survival.
Unlike many other animals, leopards hunt and live alone. These deadly predators depend on their intelligence and stealth.
This 90 minute cinematographic experience is brought to life by Dereck and Beverly Joubert, the award-winning husband-and-wife filmmakers famous for Eternal Enemies, and is narrated by Oscar winner actor Jeremy Irons.
Dereck and Beverly Joubert started filming the life of a leopard since it was an eight days old cub. The baby was named Legadema, which means “light from the sky” in Botswana’s national language Setswana. The Joubert couple spent three and half years of perilous life, closely watching Legadema’s every step of the way, until she is 3 years old and on the brink of adulthood.
Legadema works her way into your heart as she slips in and out of danger virtually every day, running from baboons and hyenas but also making landmark strides in hunting and surviving. It is the story of a mother and daughter relationship, as well as that of an emerging huntress in Botswana’s magnificent Mombo region of the Okavango Delta.

Reviews:
“When I first saw this film on the National Geographic Channel, I was blown away. This is one of the best and most beautiful films I've ever seen! I loved it so much that I bought the DVD and watch it over & over again. It is amazing to see how these leopards live such interesting lives. It's not just about survival it's about a mother and her fun loving daughter Legadema and the bond they share. Beautifully shot and narrated. I hope Jeremy Irons does other programs for National Geographic in the near future! This is also about how important these animals are to us.”
“I was fortunate enough to watch this wonderful documentary on the National Geographic Channel and it stole my heart. They aired it again a couple of months later and I was ecstatic! I've wanted to own this work of art and finally received it as a gift last week. It was worth the wait. I've always loved animals, and over the years I've watched many documentaries. It is an intimate portrait of an elusive and majestic animal. Very few people had the pleasure of seeing it in its natural habitat, up close and personal. This film makes you feel like you're there. All of your senses are awakened. You can almost touch the leopard's fur and smell the African air. I wholeheartedly recommend this exquisitely executed DVD.”
