Lions of Crocodile River - Region 2 DVD

“Lazy relatives, jealous neighbours and runaway kids: the everyday troubles of family life, except that this family is a pride of Lions”
Shot over three years in the unspoilt Luangwa Valley in Zambia, this film follows the young male, Mfumu, as he struggles to defend his turf against a rival male, bent on taking over the pride; and his mate, Chipazuwa, as she tries to produce offspring. This is their story….
Lions may be the lords of the jungle, but their domain stops at the river’s edge. A river infested with hungry crocodiles is a deadly threat to curious young cubs. Curiosity can kill the cat!
After five years of losing every litter to predators, Chipazuwa gives birth to two healthy cubs, but she must battle mortal enemies in order to raise them to adulthood.
She has been robbed of her previous cubs by crocodiles for five years in a row but she is determined to be a good mother. This time, the brave lioness saves her cubs from a hungry crocodile that has come up from the river into lion territory….
This multiple award-winning documentary reveals:
- the ongoing rivalry between the male lions
- skilfully filmed night time hunting scenes
- how the lions hunt buffalo and impala
- beautiful, close-up footage of tiny lion cubs
- the world’s largest concentration of crocodiles
- that a croc’s bite is 10 times stronger than a shark’s
- the development of the two lion cubs into adulthood
- how the weather causes some of the most extreme changes in landscape.
Narrated by Vanessa Garnick.
Produced by Aquavision (2007) for Animal Planet/Discovery Channel.
Review:
“Beautifully shot, razor sharp footage of a family of lions trying to survive against all odds. This is no environment in which to bring up a family, but the lions stand their ground and form a small but healthy pride. The film makers have captured some incredible scenes during the extremes of both the dry and the wet season in East Africa, including amazing night time hunts”.
