“The dangerous rivers of Africa hold the key to life and death on this continent – they teem with hippos and crocodiles and their banks are home to majestic herds of elephants, lions, cheetahs and some of the richest and most varied wildlife ecosystems on earth.” Harsh seasonal cycles dictate the course of life and death along the rivers of Africa. Only the fittest survive crossing the crocodile-infested Mara, the extreme drought of the Luangwa Valley and other perils that surround the rivers of the African continent.
These are the rivers where the massive elephants and hippos live, feed and drink and where ancient crocodiles hunt and breed. They share the river with other creatures that are giants of their own kind such as the Porcupine – the largest rodents in Africa; the Martial Eagle, biggest eagle on the continent and the Leopard, a giant amongst the spotted cats.
With cunning and opportunistic hunters of all sizes lurking beneath the waters or prowling the banks, Rivers of Danger is a predator’s world and one where many imposing and giant inhabitants make their home.
The following African rivers and animals are featured in Rivers of Danger:
- Sand River (South Africa): Cerval, lions and cheetahs
- Okavango River (Botswana): Cape otter, barbel and the fishing spider
- Rufiji River (Tanzania): African wild dogs
- Luangwa River (Zambia): Hippos and crocodiles
- Zambezi River (Zimbabwe): Monitor lizards, crocodiles and baboons
- Shire River (Malawi): possessive hippos in a stand-off with crocodiles
- Mara River (Kenya): hyenas, the annual wildebeest migration and hungry crocodiles

Review:
“Prepare to be amazed, as this is a look at Africa’s rivers like you’ve never seen them before. These mighty streams are full of huge pods of hippos, large herds of elephants and massive basks of crocodiles. The large mammals vie for space with shoals of Barbel, Tilapia and the voracious Tiger Fish, as well as lots of other rare wildlife that ventures into the water…. These are the great wildlife rivers of Africa. I am very interested in hippos and this documentary has plenty of them”.
